State Auditor Troy Downing won the Republican primary for Montana’s 2nd Congressional District, a district currently held by Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.), who is not seeking reelection.
Rosendale, who has held his seat for several terms, announced a long-anticipated run for Senate in February but withdrew just a week later.
Weeks after dropping out of the Senate race, the Republican announced he would not seek reelection, leaving the Republican seat vacant.

Downing, the state’s auditor, faced heavy Republican opposition, including former Rep. Denny Rehberg.

Former President Trump endorsed Downing on Monday, just one day before Tuesday’s primary election.
