State Department Supports Evacuation Efforts for Americans in Israel and the Region

On Friday, the State Department announced it is providing “information and support” to over 25,000 people in Israel, the West Bank, and Iran, guiding them on safety and exit procedures.

During a briefing, spokeswoman Tammy Bruce was unable to specify how many of these individuals are American citizens or offer additional specifics.

This update follows the formation of a task force aimed at assisting Americans looking to leave Israel or other parts of the Middle East. Bruce clarified that there are currently no plans to transport American citizens directly from Iran; individuals must take initial steps to access government assistance.

Israeli Ambassador Mike Huckabee mentioned earlier this week that the embassy in Jerusalem is working on arranging evacuation flights and departures via cruise ships for Americans who wish to leave Israel. A few hours later, he noted on social media that, while no announcements had been made about supporting citizen departures, the State Department is always preparing for contingencies in crisis situations.

So far, the U.S. response has not been extensive, although some American diplomats and their families were flown out this week, thanks to military assistance, according to reports from ABC News.

In Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis has sent four planes for private flights to bring U.S. citizens back home amid the ongoing unrest. Other private options are also being explored for those needing to exit Israel.

This announcement coincided with the State Department elevating its travel warning for Israel to the highest level due to the deteriorating situation.
