Stephen A Smith expresses understanding of Trump's response to Biden's border issues

Stephen A. Smith Weighs In on Trump’s Tactics Amid Immigration Crisis

Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith shared his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s approach during an interview on “CBS Sunday Morning.” He acknowledged that while Trump’s methods might have flaws, they were understandable given the immigration crisis, which he attributes to former President Joe Biden.

Smith hinted at a potential presidential run, stating, “I’m going to make a decision at the beginning of 2027, but I’m not ruling it out. If I find success, I hope I never have to worry about my quality of life again.” This marks a shift from earlier comments where he dismissed such ambitions.

When discussing Trump, Smith expressed dissatisfaction with some of his strategies yet recognized the rationale behind them. “I don’t like what I see, but not everything he does is wrong,” he commented. He emphasized that the situation at the border was critical and warranted attention.

Border Crossings at a Historic Low

Smith further elaborated on immigration, pointing out the necessity of border closure during crises, especially after Biden’s policies led to an influx of illegal crossings. “If Biden had adopted Obama’s stricter policies, he wouldn’t have had to listen to me,” he stated. The numbers are striking, with nearly 10 million immigrants reported to have entered illegally since Biden took office, a fact that many critics attribute to a lack of enforcement of immigration laws.

Mark Krikorian, from the Center for Immigration Studies, remarked during a House Oversight Committee meeting that over 10 million illegal entries occurred between Biden’s inauguration and September 2024.

Smith was critical of the tactics used by the Trump administration, expressing concern about the implications of ICE detaining individuals. “I don’t like what we’re seeing on the streets regarding ICE actions. Their definition of ‘criminals’ seems to encompass those who crossed the border illegally, which is different from the real criminals harming citizens,” he expressed.

He assured, “Make no mistake, there won’t be a border crisis on my watch,” while also firmly rejecting the idea of defunding police departments, emphasizing the seriousness of crime in American cities.

Biden’s office and ICE did not respond to requests for comments regarding these statements.
