Stephen A. Smith Discusses Trump’s State of the Union Address

On a recent episode of “The Rubin Report,” commentator Stephen A. Smith shared his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, highlighting what he sees as weaknesses in Democratic politics.

A standout moment from Trump’s speech was when he asked Congress members to rise if they believed the U.S. government’s primary responsibility is to protect the interests of Americans, not illegal immigrants. Interestingly, most Democrats chose not to stand.

Smith stated, “If it were me, I definitely would have stood up.” He is considering a run for president as a Democrat. “You can predict how they’ll react; Trump knows they won’t rise. He understands how that looks for them. It’s a bluff, I’d be standing up saying, ‘That’s it.’

He asserted that when Trump mentions “American people,” he is referring to all legal citizens, regardless of race. “When he says ‘American people’ and ‘American people first,’ that’s the right thing to emphasize,” Smith explained. “Yet, many on the left label his comments as ‘racist.’ But why? Because they care about America?”

Smith argued that mass illegal immigration has adverse effects, particularly on black Americans. “When people enter the country illegally, it incurs costs,” he noted, pointing out that using emergency rooms as healthcare plans can strain systems meant for legal citizens.

He put it simply: “When white people catch a cold, black people often end up with pneumonia too. It always impacts us more. So, anything harmful to our country harms the black community doubly.”
