ESPN host Stephen A. Smith on Tuesday criticized Hillary Clinton for lecturing voters about their choices in the 2024 election.
In an interview with “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon on Monday, the two-time unsuccessful presidential candidate addressed voters dissatisfied with the upcoming rematch between President Joe Biden and President Donald Trump. He offered a frank message to the public.
Mr. Clinton scolded him, saying, “Be desperate! You have two choices.”
Smith said on CNN that attitude is the exact reason why Clinton didn’t win the presidency, and it’s what will send Trump back to the White House.
“I don’t think what she said was very wise. How was that for her in 2016?” Smith responded.
The problem with Clinton’s attitude is that she emphasizes things that voters don’t care about, especially Trump’s legal problems, while ignoring things that voters actually care about, like the economy, immigration, and crime. That’s what Smith said.
“What I’m saying is that at some point you have to consider what the voters are thinking. Voters, many of them are there — tens of millions of them, by the way.” Anything is fine [Trump’s] It’s passing now. They don’t care about his guilt or innocence, his perceived guilt or innocence. They don’t care about 91 counts. They’re thinking about their lives,” Smith explained.
That’s why, in Smith’s eyes, Clinton’s statements are “out of touch” with what voters “actually feel” and “actually think.”
“No one wants to hear that from Hillary Rodham Clinton at this particular moment. Because especially if you’re Joe Biden, what are you really, really worried about right now? Voting. You’re worried about the people who are coming. You’re worried about them coming to the polls to vote for you. You’re not even worried about them voting for Trump. . You’re worried that they’re not going to come vote for you,” Smith said.
Later in the interview, CNN anchor Abby Phillip tried to trick Smith into criticizing Trump. His recent comments on immigration.
But Smith surprised Philip with his thoughts on President Trump’s immigration comments.
Smith said President Trump’s rhetoric resonates with Americans because the border crisis and the millions of immigrants who have entered the United States under the Biden administration are “literally scared” about the border crisis.
In fact, Smith said he knows countless Black Americans and Hispanic Americans who are particularly concerned about the border crisis, which shocked Philip.
“The streets of America are full of hard-working people who go to work every day, make ends meet, pay the bills, and wonder what they have. [Trump’s rhetoric] They don’t want to see anything that distracts someone from their problems,” Smith explained.
“And when you go to vote, what do you think about? You think about what affects you,” he added.
