Stephen McVeigh is advocating for a presidential pardon for his father, Stephen McVeigh Sr., claiming that their family has been “targeted” by federal prosecutors. He referred to the case as “a trophy prosecution at the highest level.” There are ongoing discussions about the legal implications of a pardon, which have drawn public interest.
On a recent podcast, McVeigh remarked, “It’s the right thing to do.” He elaborated on the procedures for applying for a pardon, mentioning that he is in the process of gathering necessary documents.
McVeigh Sr., a reality TV star, is currently serving a two-year sentence for involvement in a multimillion-dollar crop insurance fraud scheme, located at a federal prisoner of war camp in Yankton, South Dakota. He has also been ordered to pay over $4 million in restitution.
McVeigh noted that securing public awareness and proper documentation for the pardon request was critical, stating the ordeal their farm faced was a “targeted attack.” He insists that the process of asking for a pardon is not straightforward, requiring connections and networking.
Reflecting on his father’s situation, McVeigh shared that his father initially felt less anxious during the investigation, believing it to be routine based on his 33 years in business, where he had passed numerous audits. However, that perspective shifted after consulting with a lawyer.
Despite the challenges of prison life, McVeigh expressed that his father’s optimistic nature has remained intact, mentioning their regular communication. “He’s the most optimistic and positive person I’ve ever met,” McVeigh said, affirming his continued support for his father. McVeigh Sr. has four sons from his marriage to Kristi: Stephen Jr., Jesse, Cole, and Brayden.
