Indiana Substitute Teacher Sentenced for Sending Nude Photos to Student

A former substitute teacher in Indiana has faced sentencing after being accused of sending nude photos to a 14-year-old middle school student.

The investigation began on December 1, 2023, when the student reported the incident to a school resource officer, stating that the substitute teacher had sent him explicit images. Following this, the officer informed the principal, leading to further inquiries.

The teacher, identified as Cassidy Carter, was 21 years old at the time. She was working with the South Dearborn Community School Corporation when allegations emerged regarding her inappropriate behavior.

The victim revealed to authorities that he had interacted with Carter via Snapchat, forming a friendship before the photos were sent. According to reports, Carter confided in the student, sharing that she sent nude pictures of herself during showers and late at night.

Additional details emerged during the investigation, including that Carter expressed feelings of love towards the student. Investigators found multiple messages and nude images on the boy’s phone when they conducted a search.

Dearborn County Sheriff Shane McHenry commented on the situation, expressing concerns and highlighting the importance of the student’s decision to report the actions to an adult.

Carter was arrested in February 2024 and was initially charged with child solicitation. However, as the situation evolved, the charges were modified when the victim moved away and chose not to pursue the case further. Eventually, Carter pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of battery causing moderate bodily harm.

This week, she received a two-year prison sentence from the judge, having received credit for two days spent in custody. The South Dearborn Community School Corporation has not yet provided any public comments regarding the case.
