Trump Expands TrumpRx with Generic Medications

In a recent press event at the White House, President Donald Trump announced that over 600 generic medications will be added to the TrumpRx website, significantly increasing the number of drugs available. This expansion boosts the selection on the site by sevenfold.

“Americans will be able to clearly and transparently understand the most competitive cash prices of their medications without insurance middlemen, encouraging them to compare against co-pays offered by their insurance company,” the White House shared.

TrumpRx, designed as a facilitator, showcases drugs under the Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) drug-pricing policy, passing the savings directly to consumers. Since the site’s launch in February, it has received over 10 million visits, resulting in approximately $400 million saved by American consumers, according to the president.

He referenced a projection from the Council of Economic Advisers, estimating that MFN agreements would save consumers more than $500 billion in the next decade.

“For decades Americans paid the highest drug prices anywhere in the world by far. But under the Most-Favored-Nation agreements I negotiated, we now pay the lowest price paid for anybody in any country,” Trump stated.

In addition to standard agreements, TrumpRx has broadened its generic offerings through partnerships with major companies like Amazon Pharmacy and GoodRx, aiming for lower prices on a wider range of products.

“By incorporating this massive catalog of low-cost generics at TrumpRx.gov, consumers will now have one source to ensure they’re getting the lowest possible cost on their prescription,” he added. “With these additions, TrumpRx will feature the best and lowest prices on prescriptions used by tens of millions of Americans already.”

Representatives from these companies were present at the press event, joined by Trump administration officials like HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz.

The prices on the TrumpRx site represent out-of-pocket costs, and in many cases, they can be lower than insurance copays.

“This means that TrumpRx.gov should always be your first stop before you go to the pharmacy to pick up your prescription,” Trump emphasized.

TrumpRx shows prices for local pharmacies, where consumers can use a coupon from the site.

Mark Cuban, cofounder of Cost Plus Drugs, attended the event, even though he had previously endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election.

OAN Chief White House Correspondent Daniel Baldwin mentioned this, eliciting a humorous response from the president.

“Well, he made a mistake. It was a big mistake,” Trump remarked, referring to the endorsement, which drew laughter, including from Cuban.

“What does this say about what you two are building here?” Baldwin asked.

“Well, it says that we love people, we love our country,” Trump replied. “Mark wanted to be a part of it, and I think Mark was very gracious. He said, ‘This is something that really works.’… He had to believe that if he said it about me.”

Cuban also stressed the necessity for lower medication costs across political lines.

“Republicans want cheaper drugs. Independents want cheaper drugs. Democrats want cheaper drugs,” he noted.
