Disturbing video footage captured the scene following a tragic accident involving several vehicles on Interstate 605 in Los Angeles County early Tuesday morning.
The crash occurred just after 1 a.m. on the northbound side of the 605 Freeway near Cerritos when an SUV collided with cars that had come to a halt due to an earlier accident.
In the video from the site, you can see vehicles stopped in the left lanes, with a tow truck already present and its driver working in the vicinity.
Shortly after, a gold SUV sped toward the stationary vehicles before crashing into them.
One individual lost their life after being trapped inside a vehicle, as reported by OnSceneTV. However, authorities have not yet revealed the identity of the victim or specified their vehicle.
Records from the California Highway Patrol indicate that the initial accident was reported around 12:30 a.m., and about 20 minutes later, the situation was escalated to a fatal accident investigation.
This incident led to a SigAlert being issued for the northbound 605, just south of the 91 Freeway.
As investigators worked and cleared the area, the HOV lane and three other lanes were closed off. All lanes reopened around 4:45 a.m., and the California Post has reached out to the CHP for further details regarding the cause of the collision.
