Tesla Teases Major Announcement Amid Market Activity
Tesla’s main social media account, managed by Elon Musk, shared a video over the weekend that hinted at an unspecified announcement set for Tuesday. The video, released on early Sunday, featured the Tesla logo beginning to spin, creating buzz among followers.
This teaser follows a successful third quarter for Tesla, in which they achieved record delivery numbers. Interestingly, the company’s shares jumped more than 4% in anticipation of the upcoming news, a notable increase during Monday’s trading.
Elon Musk’s Enormous Compensation Package
Rumors suggest that Tesla is considering a staggering $1 trillion salary package for Musk, a plan that, if confirmed, would certainly turn heads in the corporate world. However, despite recent successes, analysts predict that Tesla’s annual vehicle deliveries could decrease to around 1.62 million for the second year in a row.
In the face of this, Tesla previously pushed back the launch of a low-cost version of its Model Y, intended to stimulate demand during a period of slower electric vehicle sales. The company noted that it had begun initial builds in June, but sales won’t commence until the fourth quarter—this rollout will be slower than initially envisioned.
The anticipated cheaper Model Y is designed to cost about 20% less than earlier versions, with plans to increase production to roughly 250,000 units per year by 2026.
Looking Ahead
Wall Street remains hopeful for Tesla’s recovery, projecting deliveries to rebound to 1.85 million vehicles next year, with cheaper models making up a significant portion. Matt Britzman, a senior equity analyst, indicated that the pricing strategies may reveal Tesla’s capacity for cost reduction and demand generation, which could drive future success.
However, it’s worth noting that Tesla has not unveiled any new mass-market vehicles recently. Instead, they’ve been focusing on iterative updates to the Model 3 and Model Y, which continue to be their primary sales drivers.
The last significant new model release was the CyberTruck, which has faced challenges in the market, leading to substantial discounts on existing inventory in recent months. Reports suggest that a notable number of CyberTrucks have been constructed since late 2023, highlighting ongoing manufacturing efforts despite commercial hurdles.
