Jeremy Allen White Supports UK Social Media Ban for Kids
Actor Jeremy Allen White has expressed his support for the UK’s decision to impose social media restrictions on children under 16, including platforms like TikTok and YouTube.
In a discussion with Variety ahead of the final season premiere of FX’s The Bear, White, who also appears in Social Liquidation, mentioned that changes are needed regarding kids’ social media use. “It’s astounding how addictive it is,” he remarked. “I think there needs to be a fix. It’s never going to disappear, but we really must establish some boundaries and guidelines. I hope we can shift back to a more analog way of living because everything is happening so quickly, and it can feel quite frightening.”
White, who has two young children aged 7 and 5, mentioned that they do not have phones or iPads. He expanded on this during a conversation with Variety last fall, expressing his desire to keep his kids off social media for as long as possible.
Pop star Robbie Williams is another figure who shares similar views, having banned his four children from having mobile phones, which he described as a form of child abuse. “They don’t have phones and won’t for as long as I can manage,” he stated. “It’s tough because they’re in school while other kids have phones. I just can’t handle the harmful impact of the internet—it really affects my day.” He questioned, “How can you introduce this kind of drug to a 12-year-old or even a 7-year-old? That’s abuse.”
Actor Jason Momoa also mentioned that he has prohibited his children from using phones and watching television. “We don’t even have a TV,” he said prior to the premiere of the Minecraft movie. “My son, who’s 16, doesn’t have a phone either. We’re different that way. When he turns 18, he can have a phone and venture out into the world.” He wants his kids to express their creativity through other mediums instead.
Momoa added a more philosophical perspective, noting that life was perfectly fine before the advent of mobile phones. “Everyone was thriving. I didn’t have a phone growing up, so I had to figure things out for myself,” he observed. However, he also emphasized that he does enjoy watching movies with his children as a family.
