Third-Party Candidate Jill Stein to Remain on Wisconsin Ballot After Supreme Court Refused Democrat Challenge

The Wisconsin Supreme Court rejected a Democratic challenge, ensuring that Green Party candidate Jill Stein will continue to run in the key battleground state.

David Strange, a Democratic National Committee official, sued to remove Stein from Wisconsin's ballot, but the state Supreme Court simply said Strange was “not entitled to the relief he seeks.”

“We hold that the petitioners are not entitled to the relief they seek,” the court said in an unsigned order, without further explaining its reasons.

Strange argued that Stein cannot appear on Wisconsin's ballot because the Green Party does not have any state officeholders or “legislative candidates with the power to nominate presidential electors.” Associated Press:

Strange was challenging the Wisconsin Elections Board's decision in February to grant the Green Party ballot status because its candidates received more than 1% of the vote in the 2022 statewide election, meeting the law's requirements. Cheryl McFarland finished last in the four-way race for secretary of state, garnering about 1.6% of the vote.

The Wisconsin State Board of Elections is scheduled to meet on Tuesday to certify which candidates will appear on the ballot. Democrats also Independent candidate Cornel West It's on the ballot. Republican National Committee officials are challenging the candidacy of independent candidate Siva Ayyadurai.

Democrats are concerned that a strong third-party candidate could take away votes from Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate running against former Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Democratic National Committee spokeswoman Adrienne Watson called the decision “disappointing.” But Stein praised the move, saying the Green Party “fought off the DNC's attacks.” Wisconsin Green Party co-chair Michael White called the move “a sign of Democratic fear.”

“This was an inevitable conclusion as the complaints were baseless to begin with and we knew it,” he said.

In an interview with Breitbart News, Stein accused Democrats of stifling political competition.

“I think the Democratic Party needs to be renamed. They are actually 'anti-Democrat,' and I've had issues with both institutionalized parties, and Republicans are no exception. But when you look at the Democrats, they've done everything they can to basically shut out political competition,” Stein said.
