Todd Chrisley has responded to critics of his and his wife Julie’s presidential pardon, asserting that the backlash isn’t really about justice. Interestingly, he noted that, at least in their direct experiences, they haven’t faced much negativity, but many former fans online are questioning who has given them forgiveness following the pardon.
“Some people online used to be our fans, but now that President Trump pardoned us, they’re asking who has forgiven us,” he shared. “They’re not so much concerned about our forgiveness but rather wondering who else feels that way.”
Todd added, “To those who take issue with this, I’d say: If you were in our shoes and President Trump could pardon you, you’d be first in line for that too.”
Todd and Julie’s children have claimed that their parents betrayed them, stating they have ‘lost their last name.’
Todd and Julie were found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion, ultimately receiving a combined sentence of 19 years in prison. They were pardoned by President Trump in May 2025, after serving two and a half years, while consistently maintaining their innocence.
Since the pardon, Todd has expressed a desire to keep his family discussions away from political issues. “I want our conversations to remain personal, not politicized,” he mentioned. “Julie and I, along with our family, share the same core values. Our family loves everyone, regardless of differing political beliefs, and we still gather for meals in Nashville. We support each other, and I believe that’s what the world truly needs.”
He continued, “You can express you dislike for various politicians, but we need to treat each other with respect, kindness, and generosity. It’s just like rooting for different sports teams—cheer for your team without disparaging the others.”
Reflecting on his family’s journey since their conviction, Todd described it as “humbling.” “We’ve been fortunate to return home, drive a car, buy clothes, and enjoy proper meals—experiences many others don’t have. It’s really opened our eyes to communities we might never have met otherwise,” he said. “I look at how blessed we are and I don’t take it lightly.”
Outside of politics, Todd mentioned finding a sense of redemption during a recent appearance on “The Masked Singer” with Julie. “Walking on that stage, I felt grateful. It’s all thanks to God’s grace,” he stated, recalling his moment of spiritual reflection.
Julie described the performance as a “full circle” moment. She remembered watching the show from prison previously. “We overcame such a dreadful experience, and now we’re thriving together. A year ago, who could’ve imagined us on stage as contestants? We’re genuinely grateful,” she said.
Julie acknowledged they never shied away from the controversies surrounding them, instead viewing it as their narrative to share. “No one can tell our story better than we can,” she concluded.
Post-release, the couple launched their new reality show, “The Chrisleys: Back to Reality.”
