Tom Segura Discusses Los Angeles with Joe Rogan

Comedian Tom Segura recently joined podcaster Joe Rogan for a conversation that kicked off with a discussion about the state of Los Angeles. Segura expressed disbelief at how many liberal Californians remain, in his words, “delusional” about the city’s decline.

During their interview, which covered various topics, they reflected on the Middle East’s history as a vibrant cultural center, both in ancient and more modern times. It struck Segura that such vibrancy might always have been the case.

“Look at L.A.,” Rogan joked, using it as an example of a shocking decline similar to what once was.

Segura, agreeing with Rogan, elaborated that the city has essentially split into two groups of people. “There are those who recognize things have changed and those who are completely out of touch,” he noted. Many of his friends appear to accept this shift, while others insist that everything is fine. “You’re not living in reality,” he said regarding the latter group.

Rogan quipped that those who persist in their optimistic views might not be thinking clearly, possibly due to a slew of vaccine boosters. It was a light jab at their reasoning abilities, implying they’ve been too disconnected from reality.

Segura mentioned feeling surprised by the continued enthusiasm for COVID-19 booster shots, while Rogan pointed out that some people proudly share their vaccination status online. It’s an interesting social phenomenon, really.

Later in the discussion, Rogan asked Segura about Spencer Pratt, the former reality TV star running for Los Angeles mayor. Segura pondered the potential for an engaging campaign to resonate with anxious residents. “There’s definitely a chance for someone to come in and make a splash,” he said, before Rogan interjected that many Angelenos are indeed desperate for change.

“They live to be entertained, so let’s give them some fun,” Segura added, which brought agreement from Rogan about Pratt’s entertaining qualities.

Finally, Rogan found humor in Pratt’s unusual campaign tactic of power-washing his name onto dirty sidewalks as a way to draw attention. It seemed to highlight the grimy reality of the city’s streets while simultaneously putting a spotlight on his message. “Imagine if the streets were this clean,” was the cheeky note accompanying his efforts.

Segura concluded that Trump’s rise from reality TV to the presidency could serve as inspiration for others hoping to break into politics.
