Top Adams official attacks ‘extremist’ NYC council after slaying of NYPD cop Jonathan Diller for ‘placing the public at risk’

A senior member of the Adams administration lashed out online against an “extremist” City Council, accusing the city’s policies of fostering recidivism and disorder in the wake of the Big Apple police officer’s killing.

“What does it take for extremist apologists and elected officials to understand that what they have done to severely weaken our nation’s public safety system is needlessly putting the public at risk? I wonder.” Deputy Mayor Luis Molina criticizes on LinkedIn.

“Essentially, the common mentally ill and recidivist criminal perpetrators are not inhibited because the law removes almost all consequences for those who refuse to live within the confines of the law and social norms. Because of this,” the former prison warden continued in public. post.

The comment was liked by many police officers, prison officials and City Hall officials, who posted that the president of the Sergeant’s Benevolent Association had instructed city council members not to attend Saturday’s funeral for NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller. Shared the article in the paper.

SBA President Vincent Vallelong sent a scathing memo to members Wednesday morning attacking anti-police local elected officials.

“They are just as morally responsible for the PO dealer’s death as the career criminal who pulled the trigger,” he raged.

Mr. Vallelong then singled out City Council President Adrian Adams and Councilman Jumaane Williams, who are not related to Mayor Eric Adams, and accused them of picking on the officers.

Molina’s post captures some of the Adams administration’s strongest words to the City Council as budget negotiations are expected to intensify soon.

Mayor Adams, meanwhile, has been much more subdued in his public comments to council members, even when councilors voted to override his veto of a controversial stop count law and ban on solitary confinement earlier this year.

But it was unclear what policies and laws Molina believed affected recidivism and crime in general.

City Councilman Lincoln Ressler fired back after posting.

“Louis Molina weakened our public safety system by pushing for a federal takeover of our prisons and eliminating programs that reduce recidivism,” Ressler said.

A call to city hall was not immediately answered.
