A Curious Airport Incident
A man found himself in serious trouble recently.
Authorities reported that a tourist was apprehended at an airport in Indiana with a live grenade concealed in a peanut butter jar. This unusual event unfolded after a man attempted to sneak two live smoke grenades in his checked luggage at Indianapolis International Airport last month. One of the grenades was, surprisingly, hidden inside a jar of creamy peanut butter.
TSA expert Michael Dunphy explained that the alarming situation came to light when security flagged the man’s bag for a more thorough inspection. That’s when they discovered the explosives. “After I took everything out of the bag, I couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Could there be two grenades in here?'” he mentioned in a press release. “Then, after further inspection, I was astonished to find the second grenade nestled within a peanut butter jar.”
The identified passenger allegedly told an airline employee that a friend suggested using the jar as a hiding place to successfully pass through security.
Airport police and the airline’s station manager were summoned to the scene. However, it’s unclear if the man was arrested or faced any specific repercussions.
“Honestly, this was the most memorable call I’ve received in years,” Dunphy reflected.
This bizarre incident coincides with reports of a surge in food-related escapades at airports, including incidents involving salad dressings.
In a related note, foreign soccer fans arriving in the U.S. for the World Cup have been carrying full bottles of ranch dressing, prompting the TSA to remind travelers to put such items in checked luggage instead.
Authorities have warned that attempting to hide prohibited items “will only result in more severe consequences.”
The TSA did not reply immediately to a request for comment.
