Trump Criticizes Fox News Report on Iran Negotiations

Former President Donald Trump expressed strong discontent regarding a recent Fox News segment that discussed negotiations with Iran. He specifically called out Bret Baier, the network’s chief political correspondent, urging him to “straighten out” his reporters following the broadcast on Thursday.

In a report, Jonathan Hunt claimed Trump was not engaging in discussions with Iran while highlighting Iran’s responses to U.S. economic policies. Trump’s frustration was evident when he took to social media to voice his displeasure.

He wrote, “Jonathan Hunt of Fox News did a particularly inaccurate report on the Failing Islamic Republic of Iran. I don’t want to meet, they do. In fact, they are begging to make a deal. Bret Baier should straighten out his flunkies, for a change!” This comment came while Hunt’s segment aired on “Special Report.”

Baier defended Hunt just before the show’s conclusion, stating, “First of all, Jonathan is not a flunky. He is a great reporter.” He also clarified, “We didn’t say you wanted to meet. In fact, we played a soundbite; you didn’t want to meet, and there are negotiations.” Baier added that Treasury Secretary Bessent is in hope of discussions with G20 countries to escalate pressure on Iran, mentioning that allies like Qatar are in Tehran attempting to negotiate concessions.

Moreover, reports indicate that Iran is reportedly drafting a new set of demands aimed at reaching a peace agreement with the U.S. administration.

The U.S. has been trying to influence Iran through economic strategies to push for a deal that prevents the regime from acquiring nuclear weapons while also addressing its control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Additionally, Axios mentioned that the administration has been gaining leverage over Iran by skillfully moving oil tankers through the strait, thus hindering Iran’s financial gains from oil exports.

In an earlier rally this August, Trump proclaimed a bold statement regarding the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting he would make it the 51st U.S. state.
