Trump Endorses Hilton and Fong Ahead of California Primaries
President Donald Trump has shown his support for Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton and Congressman Vince Fong, representing California’s 20th congressional district since 2024. This endorsement comes just before the Golden State’s primary elections.
On Monday, Trump made his endorsements through posts on Truth Social, backing both candidates in their respective races.
Hilton, a Republican from California, aims to secure a spot in the top two during Tuesday night’s primary, which would keep his hopes alive to be the first Republican governor since 2011. He’s competing closely against Democratic figures like Xavier Becerra, the previous Health and Human Services secretary, and billionaire Tom Steyer.
Back in April, Trump first endorsed Hilton, expressing his belief that California has been struggling. He has known Hilton for a while now and thinks he’s the right person to help the state recover.
“I have known and respected Steve Hilton, who is running for Governor of California, for many years,” Trump commented on Truth Social. “He is a truly fine man, one who has watched as this once great State has gone to Hell.”
The former president continued, critiquing the current administration, specifically targeting incumbent Governor Gavin Newsom. “Gavin Newscum and the Democrats have done an absolutely horrendous job. People are fleeing, crime is increasing, and taxes are the highest of any state in the country, maybe the world,” Trump stated.
“Steve can turn it around, before it is too late, and, as President, I will help him do so! With federal help, and a great governor like Steve Hilton, California can be better than ever before! Steve Hilton has my COMPLETE & TOTAL ENDORSEMENT. He will be a GREAT governor and, importantly, WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!!!” he concluded.
Trump also praised Congressman Vince Fong, highlighting his efforts in reducing taxes, managing sustainable water resources, and strengthening border security.
As the jungle primary progresses, polls in California are set to close at 8 PM PST.
