Former Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that former President Donald Trump’s reelection poses a “national security risk.”
Anchor Kristen Welker said, “Overnight we got a series of new comments from former President Trump. He’s basically talking about NATO leaders paying their fair share in the face of these threats from Vladimir Putin.” You’re telling a story, a conversation that you had with one of them. “One of the presidents of a great nation stood up and said, if we don’t pay and Russia attacks us, will you protect us?” Trump said at the rally. Welker said, “What do you think about that?”
“That’s why I’ve been saying for a long time that he’s not fit to be president of the United States. And that’s why I’ve said for a long time that he’s not fit to be president of the United States,” Christie said. It is a different matter to think that it is right to say, “No.” I think the American people expect that from their president, but the problem with Donald Trump is that it doesn’t end there. He must say that I encourage you to do whatever Russia wants you to do. This is completely inappropriate for a US president or US presidential candidate to say, but it is consistent with his love for dictators. ”
Welker said: “Do you think making such comments poses a national security risk?”
Christen said, “What poses a national security risk is the possibility of him becoming president of the United States again. And the fact is, as I said earlier, Donald Trump was scared when he took office in 2016. He was scared of being president. He was afraid of the mistakes he was going to make. He knew he wasn’t ready, and as a result, he had a lot of very good people around him on these issues, General Mattis, General Kelly, He listened to other people. He won’t do that in a second term.”
