Trump claims Hamas is prepared for enduring peace after agreeing to a peace deal, urges Israel to promptly halt its bombing of Gaza

Trump’s Peace Proposal and Hamas’ Response

On Friday, President Donald Trump expressed his approval of Hamas’ reaction to his 20-point peace plan, aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

In a detailed social media post earlier that day, Trump mentioned that there was a “last chance” for a peace agreement by Sunday evening. He warned that failure to comply would lead to unprecedented consequences for Hamas.

This communication from Trump followed his announcement of the peace proposal, which was initially shared on Monday alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The proposal stipulates that Hamas must condemn and release all hostages. In return, it suggests an end to hostilities and a pathway toward a sovereign Palestinian state.

In response to Trump’s comments, Hamas released a statement acknowledging conditions around the establishment of a Palestinian state but confirming it would approve the proposal.

“The intense aggression against the people of Gaza obliges us to advocate for their rights,” Hamas noted, framing their resistance as in line with Trump’s framework.

They expressed appreciation for Arab, Islamic, and international efforts, including those from Trump, regarding the cessation of hostilities and the exchange of prisoners.

“Hamas is committed to releasing all prisoners linked to the exchange outlined in Trump’s proposal, and we are prepared to allow administration by Palestinian technocrats,” they further stated.

Additionally, Hamas emphasized that some elements of Trump’s proposal should be part of a broader Palestinian discussion, where they would take full responsibility, adhering to international laws.

Trump reacted positively to Hamas’ statement, indicating that he believes they are open to a lasting peace.

“Israel must halt bombing in Gaza soon to ensure the safe release of hostages. It’s not safe at this moment, and we’re already working through the details,” he said, stressing that this conflict extends beyond just Gaza.
