Trump Critiques Maher’s Interview with Newsom
President Trump recently expressed strong criticism of comedian Bill Maher, claiming he appeared “defenseless and completely helpless” during an interview with California Governor Gavin Newsom.
This isn’t the first time Trump has targeted Maher; he’s previously sued him for $5 million after Maher challenged him regarding his ancestry, suggesting he isn’t of human descent. On social media, Trump called Maher “weak and helpless” for not pressing Newsom harder during the discussion.
“Last night, I watched Newsom, who obviously has a low IQ, say he can’t read speeches, is pretty clueless, and essentially incompetent. Yet he takes Maher ‘over the coals,'” Trump wrote, highlighting his view of the interview.
Trump continued, saying, “Either Maher wasn’t aware or he just choked because Newsom kept claiming that California is doing well, when in reality, the state is facing its worst year ever with more people leaving than arriving.”
Maher, known for his liberal views, has shifted to a more centrist stance in recent years, often voicing his concerns about California’s governance.
During the interview, Maher did confront Newsom, questioning if voters would have positive things to say about high gas prices or rising rents. He also mentioned the need to address issues like public transportation, stating, “Gavin, we have to get rid of the train.”
For years, Maher has criticized California’s high taxes and regulatory challenges.
However, Trump accused Maher of lacking firmness in challenging Newsom and praised the governor instead. “Bill Maher is a timid, incompetent individual I became familiar with during a dinner at the White House,” Trump remarked, referring to their meeting last year.
He added that Maher came into the Oval Office looking nervous, even asking for a drink right away, which Trump found both “endearing” and “pathetic.”
The two men were introduced by musician Kid Rock, who appeared on Maher’s podcast, “Club Random.” In response to Trump’s comments on social media, Newsom’s account playfully suggested that the interview had caused the president to “have a meltdown.”
