This week, President Trump took aim at Fox News reporter Jackie Heinrich during a Q&A, particularly commenting on her fiancé, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick from Pennsylvania.
Trump remarked, “Her husband votes against me all the time. Can you imagine? I don’t know what’s going on with him. You better ask him what’s going on,” while seemingly pointing towards Heinrich in the press room.
He elaborated, “She’s married to a congressman, and he often goes against Trump. You know how that turns out? It doesn’t work. I mean, why would he do that?”
His comments were directed at Fitzpatrick, who proposed to Heinrich last year. She excitedly shared their engagement on social media with a photo taken in a lavender field in France last summer.
In January, she shared another post about saying “yes” to a wedding dress, hinting at a spring wedding.
Heinrich is also the vice president of the White House Correspondents’ Association and was on stage during a recent shooting incident that targeted a gathering at the Washington Hilton.
Fitzpatrick expressed gratitude for the safety of everyone present, including the president and first lady, stating, “Tonight could have ended very differently. The Secret Service acted swiftly and professionally. In a moment of chaos, they maintained order and courage. We should all unite in prayer for our country and remember our shared responsibilities.”
Fitzpatrick has built a reputation as a Republican who often challenges Trump, notably advocating for amnesty and pushing for the Equality Act, which aims to protect sexual orientation and gender identity as a “protected class.” In 2021, he rejoined the Democrats and co-sponsored gun control legislation for universal background checks.
In 2025, Fitzpatrick left the Republican Party again and supported a petition aimed at expanding Obamacare subsidies.
He also introduced a resolution condemning Trump for his actions surrounding the January 6th events, alleging that Trump attempted to disrupt the 2020 election results.
Fitzpatrick stated that Trump’s actions jeopardized the integrity of the democracy, Congress, and the vice president, accusing him of misleading the public with false information.
Most recently, he indicated that he would “100 percent” switch to being an independent candidate if a primary occurred in his state.
