Trump Announces Ceasefire Between Iran and Israel
On Monday evening, President Trump declared a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, aiming to halt the ongoing violence in the Middle East. He mentioned that Iran would initiate the ceasefire, with Israel following 12 hours later.
However, shortly after the announcement, reports surfaced of numerous violations from both sides, leading to an increase in casualties. The situation prompted Trump to take decisive action early Tuesday morning.
One notable statement he made was, “Israel. Don’t drop those bombs.”
When questioned about the ceasefire’s stability, Trump remarked a few hours later, “This is a long-standing conflict, causing devastation across the Middle East, but they haven’t and won’t cease.” He referred to Iran’s actions as strategic mistakes and expressed frustration that Israel had launched strikes right after the agreement. “That’s nonsensical,” he added.
Iran’s Foreign Minister confirmed that Tehran’s military activities against Israel “remained active until the very last minute,” specifically noting an operation conducted at 4 am.
Meanwhile, the chief of the Israeli Defense Forces asserted that they were compelled to respond to what he termed a “serious violation of the ceasefire by the Iranian regime.”
Trump, while critical of Iran, directed significant frustration toward Israel. “I wasn’t pleased with how quickly Israeli strikes occurred after the deal,” he stated, emphasizing the strength of their retaliation. He also admitted that Israel’s actions had been substantial.
Just before the ceasefire was to begin, Israeli airstrikes resulted in nine fatalities in northern Iran, while Iranian strikes reportedly claimed at least five lives in Bercheva, Israel.
Despite this turmoil, Trump seemed particularly exasperated with Israel’s approach, remarking, “When it’s supposed to be a ceasefire, you can’t just go all out immediately.” He expressed dissatisfaction with both nations, indicating that the ongoing strife has reached a baffling level.
The president issued a direct message to Israel, warning them against further bombing. “If so, that’s a big violation. Bring the pilots home!”
Tension escalated further when, shortly after that warning, Trump had a reportedly nonsensical phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, affirming that Israel would not strike Iran and ordering their planes to reroute.
“Ceasefires work!” Trump insisted, despite the chaotic circumstances surrounding the agreement.
