Trump Targets Montana Republicans During Rally

During a midterm campaign rally in Kalispell, Montana, President Donald Trump, known for his jabs at opponents, directed some of his humor towards local Republican leaders. “Leave me alone,” he told the crowd at the Majestic Valley Arena.

He made light of the concerns voiced by Montana politicians regarding plans for a new facility for weapons testing, described as a “super range” intended for advanced military technology. “I’m excited to announce that right here in Montana, the Department of War will establish a new super range for testing advanced weapons and technologies,” Trump shared with his supporters.

This facility, as Trump explained, will be used for testing autonomous weapons, space-based systems, and a variety of electronic warfare technologies, including supersonic and hypersonic munitions. This announcement comes shortly after the government affirmed the presence of American weapons in space, with Air Force Secretary Troy Meink stating that there are weapons capable of defending U.S. forces against adversaries.

Trump’s comments about the super range seemed to stem from annoyance at his fellow Republicans, who were apparently very vocal about securing this testing ground for Montana. “You’re getting it, everybody—could you please leave me alone?” Trump quipped, specifically calling out Tim Sheehy, a Republican senator from Montana, as someone driving him “crazy.” He noted that while this might be good for Montana, there may be others across the country who “won’t be thrilled,” since many wanted the super range in their own areas.

Senator Sheehy confirmed on Thursday that he has actively pushed for the construction of this range, having even secured $10 million for a feasibility study via the National Defense Authorization Act. “The 21st-century battlefield is redefined by new weapons and ever-evolving technologies, which requires a novel approach to American military capabilities,” he stated.

Sheehy expressed concern that the U.S. might fall behind its competitors if it doesn’t develop the necessary infrastructure for testing new weaponry, which includes electronic, hypersonic, and space technologies.

There’s still some opacity regarding the specific capabilities of the current U.S. military, especially considering that up until recently, many advancements highlighted were primarily for ground forces.

In wrapping up his remarks, Sheehy added that by leveraging Montana’s expansive landscapes, innovative mindset, and military history, the state could be pivotal in equipping U.S. forces with the technological advantages required for future conflicts.
