President Trump Promises Significant Support for Lebanon

President Donald Trump and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun conducted a notable meeting at the White House. During this meeting, Trump emphasized Lebanon’s resilience and intellectual prowess while acknowledging the substantial challenges the nation has faced over the years. He assured strong backing from the United States and expressed a commitment to resolving ongoing issues, especially concerning Hezbollah, to ensure Lebanon garners the respect it merits.

After their discussions, Trump stated that he would instruct his administration to permit all U.S. airlines to fly to Lebanon, making it easier for Americans to visit the country. He took to social media, praising Aoun for his dedication to transforming Lebanon and advocated for direct flights to facilitate American travel to this “beautiful land.”

In the Oval Office, alongside Aoun, Trump hinted at more initiatives beyond just the direct flight announcement, referring to Lebanon as a “land of great intelligence.” He mentioned that some of Lebanon’s issues, including the Hezbollah dilemma, seemed to have been partly resolved. “We did some things that I think the world will take note of,” he noted.

This decision marks another effort by the Trump administration to fortify relationships with Lebanon, following months of U.S.-backed diplomatic efforts aimed at curbing Hezbollah’s influence and fostering stability in the region.

Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy commented on social media, acknowledging the president’s announcement, indicating a shared understanding. This announcement follows extensive diplomacy between Lebanon and Israel, aimed at lessening Hezbollah’s power.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu termed the agreement a “severe blow to Iran,” while U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee described it as a “historic opportunity,” emphasizing the need to disarm Hezbollah for lasting peace. Aoun expressed gratitude towards the Trump administration for facilitating negotiations and supporting Lebanon throughout the process.
