Israel and Iran Call for Ceasefire Amid Escalating Conflict

Amid a backdrop of rising tensions, Israel and Iran are seeking an “immediate ceasefire” after a night filled with exchanges of attacks, as announced by President Donald Trump.

Over the weekend, Iran launched a missile at Israel. This marks what many believe to be the first such attack since a ceasefire was established in early April. In retaliation, Israel carried out strikes while both nations remained at an impasse through the night.

President Trump posted on Truth Social, stating, “Both Israel and Iran are aiming for an immediate ceasefire! Final ‘peace’ negotiations are underway, but ignorance and stupidity could get in the way.”

He further mentioned that the blockade would stay “in full force until a ‘final agreement’ is reached,” emphasizing the need for swift action.

Before this announcement, Trump urged an end to hostilities in another message.

“Israel and Iran should immediately stop shooting,” he said.

Reports indicate that the Iranian military has declared it will halt its attacks.

According to a statement from the Iranian military, “Following the brutal invasions and misdeeds of the Zionist regime in South Lebanon and the Dahiya region carried out with the support of the criminal United States, the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran have carried out a painful response against this regime in support of the oppressed Lebanese people. On this basis, we announce the suspension of military operations. However, we emphasize that if the aggression and misdeeds continue, including in southern Lebanon, even more severe and devastating measures will be taken.”

Iran’s strikes came after Israel targeted Lebanon, with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacking a Hezbollah command center in southern Beirut following a rocket assault on a northern Israeli community.

Trump’s chief foreign correspondent, Trey Yingst, noted that Iranian attacks would complicate negotiations.

Trump remarked on Iran’s actions, saying, “We just shot the missile and that’s enough. Come back to the table and make a deal.”

He also indicated dissatisfaction with Israel’s actions against Beirut, clarifying that there was no prior coordination with the U.S.

Following the Iranian missile attacks and Israel’s responses, the IDF reported targeting various locations within Iran, including a petrochemical facility in Mahashahr.

The IDF stated, “These facilities were used by Iran’s terrorist regime forces to produce and export raw materials for weapons production. The targeted infrastructure produced unique materials that serve as critical components in ballistic missile development.”

The IDF also highlighted a “large-scale attack on strategic defense systems belonging to the terrorist regime.”

In light of these developments, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem announced the temporary closure of both its Jerusalem and Tel Aviv offices and instructed all personnel to shelter in place. They also confirmed that Ben Gurion Airport is operational, but advised travelers to check with airlines regarding flights.
