Trump Targets Rep. Massey Over War Powers
President Trump has expressed frustration at libertarian-leaning Rep. Thomas Massey from Kentucky, declaring his intention to support a significant challenge against him following the state’s efforts to limit his war powers.
In a heated post on Truth Social, Trump labeled Massey a “pathetic loser,” criticizing him for being “weak” and “ineffective.” He claimed that Massey often rejects proposals without giving them a fair chance.
“Massie should start behaving like he truly cares about America, but it seems he’s lost,” Trump remarked. He urged supporters to abandon Massey altogether, suggesting he’s just a burden to their cause. “The bright side? There are solid American patriots stepping up to run against him in the GOP primary. I’m heading to Kentucky to campaign!”
Massey’s recent actions have drawn Trump’s ire, particularly his vote in favor of the House version of the Big Beautiful Bill Act last month. This isn’t the first time they’ve clashed; back in 2020, Massey’s opposition to Trump’s $2 trillion COVID-19 relief package had already sparked tension.
Last week, Massey partnered with Rep. Locanna from California to introduce a resolution aimed at restraining Trump’s military powers concerning Iran. This initiative seems to have gained traction after Trump’s military actions against Iran’s nuclear facilities prompted debate in Congress. Massey referred to the proposal as unconstitutional.
In a recent interview, Massey argued he represents a faction that helped elect Trump but is frustrated with ongoing military engagements. “We were tired of endless wars in the Middle East and Eastern Europe,” he said, emphasizing the need to rethink presidential war powers.
Trump has consistently argued for military action against Iran, warning that allowing the regime to develop nuclear weapons poses a significant threat. He continued his barrage against Massey, portraying him as a politically ineffective figure who doesn’t grasp the urgency of the situation.
Massey’s office hasn’t yet replied to requests for comments on the matter.
Earlier this month, Trump also criticized Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky for his opposition to a major spending bill, highlighting a pattern among some Kentucky Republicans who question the party’s spending priorities and foreign policy involvement.
