Trump leads Biden among Georgia voters before CNN debate in Atlanta: Poll

Former President Donald Trump is holding his lead over President Joe Biden in Georgia ahead of their Thursday battle on the debate stage in Atlanta.

An Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll released Tuesday shows Trump with a 42.7%-37.6% lead over Biden. The survey also shows independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with 8.5% and Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver with 1%, while 7.9% of respondents said they were undecided. Kennedy has yet to qualify for the ballot in Georgia.

The poll continues a trend of Trump holding leads over Biden in Georgia, which the former president narrowly lost in 2020. The RealClearPolitics polling average shows Trump leading Biden 46.2%-42.2% in the recent surveys conducted in the state.

In the 2020 election, Biden won the state, 49.5%-49.2%, by roughly 12,000 votes. The state is considered a “toss-up” by the Cook Political Report, but Trump has not trailed in a single poll since November 2023 — when one poll showed him trailing the president by 1 point.

Both men will face off Thursday at CNN’s Atlanta studio in the first of their two debates. It is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.

The debate will be in a key swing state for both candidates, but both will be jetting off for other states where they hope to be competitive following the Thursday matchup. Biden is slated to host a rally in North Carolina on Friday, while Trump will go to Virginia for his own rally alongside Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA).
