Trump May Be the ‘First President’ to Reduce Healthcare Costs

Potential Deal to Lower Healthcare Costs by Sen. Bernie Moreno

Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) mentioned that President Donald Trump could potentially be the “first president in his lifetime” to reduce healthcare costs, thanks to negotiations being led by an Ohio senator.

In a conversation on Breitbart News Saturday with moderator Matthew Boyle, Moreno highlighted that he’s collaborating with Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) to formulate a deal aimed at extending enhanced Obamacare subsidies. They also intend to address rampant fraud while restructuring these subsidies to achieve an 11 percent reduction in health insurance premiums.

Democrats have been instrumental in enhancing the Affordable Care Act (ACA), specifically the Advanced Premium Tax Credit (APTC), and they introduced the Enhanced Premium Tax Credit (EPTC) during the pandemic through the Biden-American Rescue Plan, a $1.9 trillion initiative. These subsidies continued under the Inflation Control Act but are set to expire at the end of 2025, which contributed to a week-long government shutdown instigated by Democrats.

Now, Moreno is pushing to finalize a deal that passes through both the Senate and the House, ultimately receiving President Trump’s signature, all while aiming to lower costs for Americans.

“President Trump will be the first president in my life to go on television and announce he’s lowered insurance premiums by 11 percent for all Americans,” Moreno shared on Breitbart News Saturday.

He also remarked, “He will actually become president eventually. We will improve healthcare in this country and begin to end the disaster created by Democrats.”

Moreno outlined the proposed framework for the agreement:

Extend the subsidy for two years rather than three

Continue Obamacare enrollment to ensure lower-cost benefits for Americans

Set income limits at 700 percent to prevent high earners from receiving Obamacare subsidies

Establish minimum premiums to combat fraud

Achieve an 11% reduction in premiums and reduce federal spending via cost-sharing relief payments

Moreno noted that senators involved in the deal convened on Monday night and plan to present the framework at the Senate Republican conference on Tuesday.

“We cannot let the American people suffer due to poor policy and inaction. We must assist the American people,” he stressed.
