President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday that he has tapped “The Apprentice” author Mark Burnett to be Britain's top diplomat.
“It is my great honor to appoint Mark Burnett as special envoy to the United Kingdom,” President Trump wrote in a post. His Truth Social Media Platform.
“With a distinguished career in television production and business, Mark brings a unique combination of diplomatic acumen and international recognition to this important role.”
The London-born British-American television producer created NBC's hit series “The Apprentice,” on which President Trump appeared as host for 10 seasons. Burnett, a 13-time Emmy Award winner, also produced “Survivor,” “Shark Tank,” “The Voice” and other major television shows.
“Mark will work to strengthen diplomatic relations, focusing on areas of mutual interest such as trade, investment opportunities, and cultural exchanges. Congratulations Mark!” Trump said.
Earlier this month, President Trump nominated billionaire Warren Stevens to be the US ambassador to the UK. No one currently serves as the US special envoy to the UK.
It was unclear Saturday whether the envoy's post would require Senate confirmation.
