Joe Kent’s Comments on Trump and Israel’s Role in Iran Conflict
Joe Kent, the former head of the National Counterterrorism Center, who recently left his government position due to his opposition to the conflict in Iran, expressed his views on the situation during a discussion on X. He suggested that President Trump could only claim victory over Iran if he places restrictions on Israel’s actions.
“The goal of the president’s address was to show that declaring victory is possible if we take certain steps,” Kent stated. He emphasized that this could only happen if the president ties Israel’s actions to U.S. interests. Israel’s interests may not align with an early resolution to the conflict, which leads to differing objectives that must be acknowledged.
These comments followed Trump’s address to the nation regarding the ongoing military operations against Iran, which he initiated alongside Israel.
Trump Declares Iran is No Longer a Threat
In his speech, Trump highlighted the progress made in military objectives, stating, “We’re set to meet all of America’s military goals very soon. Our efforts will hit them hard in the upcoming weeks.” He asserted that the steps taken would eliminate what he termed “Iran’s evil threat” to the U.S. and the world, claiming that America would emerge safer and more prosperous.
Kent argued for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from the conflict. “We don’t honor our fallen by perpetuating violence; true honor comes from learning and protecting our nation without further loss of life. Now would be the ideal time to exit this unnecessary war,” he wrote.
He later remarked that the substantial goal should be to restrain Israel, suggesting that their involvement complicates any path to a resolution. His views, shared in a post on X, challenged the current dynamics of the U.S.-Israel relationship in the context of the Iranian conflict.
Fox News Digital attempted to contact the White House for comments regarding Kent’s statements.
