Trump Praised for Enacting Law to Prevent California from Banning Gas Cars

Trump Signs Law to Overturn California’s Gas-Powered Vehicle Ban

In a noteworthy move, President Donald Trump has enacted legislation aimed at reversing California’s ambitious plan to phase out new gas-powered vehicles by 2035. The signing took place during a ceremony held in the Eastern Room of the White House on Thursday.

During the event, Trump expressed his gratitude to attendees, emphasizing his commitment to revitalize the U.S. auto industry. “I want to officially rescue the US auto industry from the destruction of California’s electric vehicle industry by completely terminating it,” he stated before putting pen to paper.

He further criticized California’s regulations, noting, “They passed these crazy rules in California, and then 17 states would adopt them. Automakers were left in a tough spot.” This reflects a broader concern about how state policies can influence national standards.

Trump’s decision has garnered support from various industry leaders, including those from the American Truck Transport Association (ATA) and the American Petroleum Institute (API). General Motors (GM) also expressed approval of the legislation.

“Common sense has won today,” said Chris Spear, the ATA president and CEO, in his remarks. He thanked Trump, EPA Administrator Zeldin, and congressional leaders for their roles in this outcome. Spear noted that the decision brings a necessary sense of certainty to the trucking industry.

API President Mike Somers dubbed the legislation “a big victory for American consumers, manufacturers, and US energy security.” He appreciated Trump and Congress for their fulfillment of promises to eliminate these stringent orders, allowing Americans to select the vehicle that best suits their needs.

Furthermore, GM released an official statement expressing gratitude for the law’s signing. They asserted that the action helps align emissions standards with current market realities. “We have long advocated for one national standard to remain competitive and support innovation while providing consumers with a wide choice of vehicles,” GM added.
