Trump Announces Renovation of Lincoln Bathroom
On Friday, President Trump introduced the latest makeover at the White House: a stylish all-marble renovation of the historic Lincoln bathroom. True to his signature style, he made quite a spectacle of it.
Sharing an image on Truth Social, Trump declared he had replaced the “inappropriate” green tile from the 1940s Art Deco era with “black and white polished statuary marble” and added gold fixtures.
“I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House,” he wrote, sharing before and after pictures of the small but historically significant space located near Lincoln’s bedroom.
“The previous design from the 1940s, featuring green tiles, just didn’t suit the Lincoln era,” he continued. In another post, he emphasized the beauty of “well-polished statuary marble.”
“I used elegant black and white marble,” he added, suggesting it could be reminiscent of what was originally present during Lincoln’s time.
The lavish renovation now features gold-plated mirrors and intricate detailing, perfectly aligning with Trump’s usual taste for luxury.
This announcement comes amidst ongoing debate over his larger plans to demolish the East Wing of the White House and construct a sprawling $300 million ballroom. Critics argue that such a project, funded entirely by private donations, is misplaced and disrespectful to the White House’s history.
A recent poll by ABC News and the Washington Post revealed that over half of Americans oppose the East Wing demolition, with significant pushback coming from those who “strongly” disagree. Only 28% of respondents support the new ballroom, which Trump has described as “the most beautiful, most luxurious event space in Washington.”
The ballroom’s critics label it a vanity project that overlooks the historical significance of the White House, while some supporters argue it brings back much-needed elegance to a building that has seen better days.
Earlier this month, Trump even criticized Harry Truman’s mid-century redesign of the Lincoln Bedroom and adjacent bathroom, dismissing it as “bad style.” He expressed that Art Deco simply doesn’t align with the 1850s or the Civil War, insisting that his changes honor Lincoln’s true legacy.
From his gold-plated penthouse in Trump Tower to the opulent interiors at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s love for luxurious design is evidently well-established.
The White House has not provided any comments regarding the renovation.
