Trump Addresses Crowd at Prayer Event for America’s 250th Anniversary
In an engaging ceremony, President Donald Trump read a Bible verse during the “Rededicate 250” prayer event held on the National Mall in Washington D.C. This gathering drew thousands of attendees, celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary through what was described as a “national jubilee of prayer, praise and thanksgiving.” The all-day event featured various Republican leaders and faith figures who were scheduled to speak.
In a pre-recorded clip, Trump recited a passage from 2 Chronicles, discussing the dedication of the temple by King Solomon and God’s response to prayer. Solomon, noted for his wisdom as much as for building the grand temple in Jerusalem, is a significant figure in biblical history.
“‘I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself for a house of sacrifice…if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land,’” Trump quoted, referencing chapter 7 of 2 Chronicles.
The “Rededicate 250” website outlined three main focuses for the day, emphasizing the recognition of God’s influence throughout the nation’s history—as well as looking forward.
“Rededicate 250 will be rooted in giving thanks for God’s presence in our national life throughout 250 years of American history and asking for his guidance for the next 250,” the site explained.
Members of Trump’s cabinet were also part of the program, including Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who shared a recorded message. Hegseth echoed the sentiment of prayer, invoking the example set by George Washington.
“Let us pray as he did. Let us pray without ceasing. Let us pray for our nation on bended knee. And let us ask our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as Washington did on that momentous day,” he urged.
