California Trump Supporter Reflects on Recent Violence
A Trump supporter from California, who witnessed the 2024 assassination attempt on Donald Trump, noted that recent shootings reminded him of that traumatic moment, highlighting a pressing need for more peaceful political discourse.
Blake Marnell, often referred to as the “Brick Suit” due to his unique pro-Trump gear, shared his thoughts after hearing about the recent shootings tied to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, as reported by a local news outlet.
This incident adds to a series of violent threats against the president, who was targeted at a prominent event in Washington, D.C., before security detained the suspect.
Marnell experienced immediate “flashbacks” to a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024 when gunfire broke out, injuring Trump.
“Then I heard a gasp,” he recalled. “My instant reaction was to think back to Butler, and when I heard that, I was really relieved that President Trump seemed to be okay.”
At the time of the recent shooting, Marnell was attending a rally in Scottsdale, Arizona, focused on citizenship requirements in federal elections.
Reflecting on the chaos at the 2024 rally, he described how fear gripped the crowd as gunshots rang out.
“Initially, I thought it was just a firecracker. Suddenly, I saw Secret Service rushing onto the stage. People were screaming and praying, saying, ‘Get off! Get off!'” he said.
The latest incident involved a suspect armed with multiple weapons attempting to breach security at the Washington Hilton, classified as an assassination attempt and marking yet another threat to Trump.
Marnell emphasized the necessity for a shift in political rhetoric, suggesting, “We really need to be more civil. I’d like to see less exaggeration, less denouncing of political opponents, and less demonizing of opposing views. I believe that could really help prevent such incidents in the future.”
