Mike Lindell’s Political Journey and Trump’s Endorsement
Mike Lindell, the founder and CEO of MyPillow, proudly identifies as a Republican. His journey is quite remarkable, having grown up in a trailer park and crediting his success to divine intervention. Despite battling a severe addiction to crack cocaine, he managed to turn his life around, achieving personal success and establishing a recovery network.
In recent years, Lindell has faced significant challenges, both personally and in his business. His staunch support for former President Donald Trump, particularly during the claims of fraud in the 2020 election, has come with a steep price. This included his own allegations of fraud, which drew attention from the FBI amid claims of election mishandling.
In a show of support, Trump lauded Lindell’s efforts, especially after he announced his candidacy for governor of Minnesota. Lindell declared himself “fit to be governor” at the age of 65. Trump, commenting on Lindell’s hardships, said, “He suffered. What he did… because he knew the election was stolen.” Trump expressed admiration for Lindell’s determination, emphasizing that he fought for truth as a concerned citizen.
Recently, Trump officially endorsed Lindell for the governor position in Minnesota, declaring him a dedicated patriot who has made significant sacrifices for election integrity. Lindell voiced a heartfelt commitment to reinvigorate Minnesota, stating, “I truly love Minnesota… He [Trump] can do it!”
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Republican Party had previously endorsed Kendall Qualls, a former health care executive and Army veteran. In a recent poll conducted in late June, Lindell was leading with 27%, followed by House Speaker Lisa Demuth at 21%, while Qualls trailed with just 10%. This trend suggested that Lindell continues to resonate with the Republican voter base that supported Trump.
Rich Burris, from the polling organization, remarked that Lindell captures the working-class voters who were crucial to the Trump coalition. He noted that with Trump’s endorsement, Lindell’s path seems clear, indicating the race might be nearing conclusion. Despite this, Qualls maintains that the election will ultimately be determined by core Minnesota Republicans rather than external support.
Lindell’s platform includes various proposals: supporting immigration enforcement, opposing sanctuary policies, and enacting tax reforms aimed at reducing the burden on families. He also seeks to tackle welfare fraud and expand educational options for families.
The Republican primary in Minnesota is set for August 11, where voters will face a choice amid the evolving political landscape, which includes some unconventional candidates from the Democratic side.
