Trump Discusses Iran Nuclear Deal
WASHINGTON – President Trump talked about a potential nuclear agreement with Iran on Thursday, just before discussions in Rome between the U.S. and Iranian officials were set to take place.
On Wednesday, Trump expressed his condolences to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the killing of two Israeli diplomats in Washington, D.C., amidst ongoing debates.
During their conversation, leaders talked about possible arrangements with Iran, and White House spokesperson Karolyn Leavitt mentioned that they believe the president is approaching the situation correctly.
Leavitt added that Trump conveyed to Netanyahu he would have already finalized the deal if possible.
“As the President told me, and as he mentioned to you, this engagement with Iran could steer in two directions: one being a favorable diplomatic resolution, or the other a significantly adverse scenario for Iran. That’s the purpose of these discussions,” she noted.
Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is set to lead the talks in Rome for the fifth round.
Leavitt emphasized that Trump and Netanyahu share a foundation of trust and transparency in their relationship.
“The president has been very explicit, not just to Prime Minister Netanyahu, but to the wider world regarding the Iran deal,” she explained.
“He doesn’t have to choose the more severe path; he genuinely aims for a resolution. The President strongly advocates for diplomacy and has reiterated that stance to all parties involved.”
Witkov, along with policy planning director Michael Anton, is heading to Rome for the upcoming meeting with Iran.
