Trump taps Kevin Hassett as National Economic Council head

President-elect Trump announced on Tuesday that he has selected former White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett to lead the next administration's National Economic Council.

“I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Kevin A. Hassett of Massachusetts will serve as Director of the White House National Economic Council,” President Trump said in a statement.

“As Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Kevin played a key role in developing and passing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, and he supported me in pursuing the highly successful policy of Making America Great Again. “I gave it to you,” he said. added

Mr. Hassett is a conservative economist who previously worked at the American Enterprise Institute.

Under the Trump administration, Hassett served as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) since 2017, and helped pass the Republican tax bill that year. Hassett resigned from his position in mid-2019.

“As soon as I return to the United States, his extremely talented replacement will be named. I want to thank Kevin for his service to date. He is a true friend!” President Trump has been in office for about five years. When Hassett previously announced his departure, he said in a post on social platform X:

Hassett briefly returned to President Trump's White House in 2020 as an advisor to then-president Trump to help with his response to the coronavirus pandemic.
