President Donald Trump has been openly critical of Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar. For instance, back in November, he suggested she should “go back” to Somalia, a country he has described in very negative terms.
Following some recent findings regarding investigations into Omar, Trump called for her resignation late Thursday, stating she won’t be allowed to remain a member of Congress.
Investigation Update
On October 12, Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a search warrant at Omar’s home in the D.C. area.
‘She apparently used a false name when she took her oath.’
This seizure was part of a federal criminal investigation, confirmed by a DOJ spokesperson, while Omar claimed it was an abuse of power. Reports indicate that authorities confiscated her phone and possibly her passport, too.
Additionally, a recent court filing from the DOJ has sparked conversation, suggesting that “Ilhan Abdullahi Omar” might actually be an alias, and that her real name could be “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.”
A source close to the investigation later concluded that “Omar” isn’t her actual name.

This could imply that her birth name is Elmi, matching the surname of Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British-Somali individual who is said to be her alleged brother. It’s a common practice, even in Somalia, for sisters to share a surname with their brothers. The situation is complicated here, though, since Omar was legally married to Elmi from 2009 to 2017.
Abdihakim Osman, a supposed friend of Omar’s, mentioned to the Daily Mail back in 2020 that she had admitted to marrying Elmi so he could stay in the U.S.
Omar has consistently denied the allegations, branding them “absolutely false and ridiculous.”
Alternatively, it might just be that Elmi was a name from her marriage. However, the New York Post has discovered a marriage certificate for Leila Nur Said that lists “Nur Said Elmi” as her father.
An alleged expert claimed that Omar’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, misrepresented himself as a refugee to U.S. authorities, asserting he was actually a military commander in a prior regime. Some reports suggest he also used the name Nur Said Elmi.
Omar’s office responded to an inquiry stating, “The congresswoman’s name has always been Ilhan Omar. Any conflicting claims are categorically false.”
Family Matters
Although Omar has long brushed off claims about her brother, when asked recently if she is related to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, she expressed uncertainty, saying “Not to my knowledge.”

In a recent Truth Social post, Trump stated, “It was recently revealed that Ilhan Omar isn’t actually Ilhan Omar—the name she used when getting elected and sworn into Congress. Her real name is apparently Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, and her last name is shockingly the same as that of her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, whom she purportedly married and had children with.”
While Omar was married to Elmi, she also had several children with a man named Ahmed Hirsi. They were initially married in a Muslim ceremony in 2002, entered into a legal marriage in 2018, and divorced the following year.
Trump commented on Omar’s “not to my knowledge” reply, hinting he finds it hard to believe. He added, “Given that she used a fake name to be sworn in, I think she should resign from Congress immediately.”
“Please inform the Speaker of the House that the Democrat Party has conceded her seat. Ilhan Nur Said Elmi has confessed to FRAUD,” he concluded.
Omar pushed back against Trump’s statement, asserting, “This is just the president of the party that protects pedophiles, spinning right-wing conspiracies through a corrupt Department of Justice. Whenever there’s bad news, he turns to me. So, let’s clear this up: my name has always been Ilhan Omar.”
