Trump Sets Deadline for Hamas Response to Peace Plan

On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump announced that Hamas has four days to respond to a proposed 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip, calling it a chance to avoid “a very sad end.” He stated, “It takes about three or four days. We’ll see how that’s going to be.” According to Trump, all Arab and Muslim countries, as well as Israel, have agreed to the plan.

“Hamas either accepts this or not,” he remarked, adding that failure to do so would result in significant consequences.

Details of the Peace Proposal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also indicated support for plans to conclude military operations in Gaza, which include disarming Hamas, securing the return of 46 hostages, and setting the stage for rebuilding the war-torn region.

Discussions have taken place in recent days, with senior officials from Qatar and Egypt meeting with Hamas representatives to convey details of the U.S. aid plan, which has garnered mixed reviews across different regions. In a recent joint statement, several countries—including Saudi Arabia and Turkey—expressed their support for Trump’s proposal while emphasizing a commitment to Israeli security concerns.

Mixed Reactions in Israel

Back in Israel, opinions are more divided. Some members of Netanyahu’s government have publicly criticized the peace plan. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich remarked that he sees it as a “huge diplomatic failure,” suggesting it ignores critical lessons learned since the recent conflicts began.

On the other hand, some opposition figures have shown optimism regarding Trump’s plan. Opposition leader Oia Rapid stated, “I am confident that what President Trump presented yesterday is the only feasible plan,” speaking to the complexities surrounding hostages and geopolitical interests. Benny Gantz, from the Blue and White party, expressed determination not to let political squabbles undermine the proposal.

As this situation develops, the next few days may prove pivotal for both Hamas and the broader geopolitical landscape surrounding the conflict.
