Trump Warns He Will Take Action Against California If Man Continues Winning Girls’ Sports Event

Trump’s Warning Over Transgender Athlete Participation in California

On Tuesday morning, President Trump threatened to impose a significant penalty on California following a transgender athlete’s participation in the California Girls State Finals. This incident involved Ab Hernandez, a transgender junior from Jurupa Valley High School, who triumphed in the women’s triple jump and high jump state events and secured second place in the long jump at the 2025 CIF State Athletics Championships.

In a previous statement on his social media, Trump contended that allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports was both unfair and detrimental to female athletes. He also mentioned plans to prohibit individuals who have transitioned from participating in state finals if necessary.

Furthermore, Trump cautioned California Governor Gavin Newsom that failure to comply with his directives could lead to significant restrictions on federal funding.

In response to Trump’s initial warning, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) implemented new guidelines, granting Hernandez the runner-up position while still permitting her to compete in the women’s events. The reaction from the championship crowd was mixed, indicating a divide in opinions.

One supporter expressed immense pride in Hernandez despite the controversies surrounding her participation, while the Los Angeles Times covered protests that emerged at the event. A protester argued that competing against trans athletes placed an unfair burden on female participants, suggesting that such policies could have harmful psychological effects.

Assistant Attorney General Hermeet Dillon recently asserted that CIF’s policy permitting men to play in women’s sports contradicts federal law. She highlighted that this policy could be deemed a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, which aims to ensure equality for all, regardless of gender.

This ongoing debate over gender and sports participation continues to ignite strong feelings on both sides, illustrating the complexities surrounding these issues in contemporary society.
