Trump’s 2027 Budget Proposal Targets Gun Regulations
President Donald J. Trump’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2027 aims to repeal several gun regulations established by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) during Joe Biden’s presidency. This 44-page document features the title “Protecting the Constitutional Rights of Americans.”
The proposal asserts, “This budget affirms the President’s commitment to decisively protect the Second Amendment and other constitutional rights of the people.” It outlines plans to invest $1.4 million to create a new office within the Civil Rights Division. This office would focus solely on safeguarding the Second Amendment rights against unlawful infringement and engage in legal action to firmly establish those rights.
Addressing Biden-era gun control measures, the document notes:
This budget continues to support the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) in efforts to dismantle regulations enacted by the previous administration that effectively criminalized responsible gun ownership. The former administration reportedly targeted legal gun owners, implementing measures such as prison sentences of up to 10 years for not registering pistol equipment that aids disabled veterans. It also imposed stringent restrictions on homemade firearms and revoked federal firearms licenses.
American gun owners have expressed that this budget “reinforces President Trump’s pro-2A policies.”
