Polling and ICE Enforcement Views

Tom Homan, a prominent figure in the Trump administration, has reacted to recent polling data suggesting that nearly half of the respondents feel that ICE’s enforcement tactics are too aggressive. Interestingly, there’s a belief among many that only illegal immigrants with prior criminal convictions should face deportation.

“If there’s a shift in public opinion regarding ICE enforcement, it’s largely due to the misleading narratives perpetuated by 95% of the media,” Homan explained during a segment on Fox & Friends. He noted that a significant portion, around 70%, of those apprehended by ICE are criminals, while the remaining 30% are deemed a potential threat to national security. Homan pointed out that more than 300 Iranian nationals have been arrested, which he claims indicates a serious national security concern.

Homan elaborated that the 30% includes individuals removed at the request of judges after going through proper legal channels. He strongly defended ICE’s mission, emphasizing its role in enforcing immigration laws set by Congress. According to him, “The left portrays us as arresting innocent people, but the reality is that ICE prioritizes public safety and addresses national security threats.”

Support for Deportation: A Mixed Bag

In a recent Fox News investigation, it was revealed that support for deporting illegal immigrants varies widely. About 30% support deportation for all, while 60% prefer that only those charged with crimes be deported, leaving others the option to apply for citizenship. Interestingly, 10% believe that all illegal immigrants should remain in the U.S.

Regarding overall sentiment toward ICE’s strategies, a considerable percentage, 49%, expressed the belief that ICE’s approach is too aggressive, whereas 24% think it isn’t assertive enough. Meanwhile, about 27% feel the current deportation efforts are just about right.

In a somewhat combative tone directed at anti-ICE protesters, Homan remarked, “If you want to challenge us, feel free to come and get some.”
