Former President Trump will appear in a New York courtroom again on Monday, this time to begin his first criminal trial in a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels just before the 2016 election.
The trial will begin with jury selection on Monday, when hundreds of New Yorkers must be whittled down to 12 people and six alternates. The process is expected to last at least several days before opening arguments begin and prominent witnesses take the stand.
Trump will make history as the first former or current U.S. president to face a criminal trial in the case, and the first former executive branch chief to be criminally indicted in the case.
That’s not the only legal issue he faces. Trump has also been charged in three other criminal indictments. One federal lawsuit concerns efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election loss; another federal lawsuit also involves the 2020 election and the January 6 election; and a federal lawsuit in Florida involving the election. The possibility of subsequent mishandling of confidential documents is involved. He quit the office.
