President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, is fighting back against a seemingly coordinated media attack by anonymous slanderers seeking to undermine his nomination to lead the government's largest agency.
He posted on X Wednesday morning:
I'm doing this for the combatants, not the warmongers. The left fears disruptors and change-makers. they are afraid @realDonaldTrump –And me too. So they fill it with fake anonymous sources and BS articles. They don't want the truth. Our warriors never back down, and neither do I.
Hegseth continued to meet with the senators responsible for his confirmation Wednesday morning.
He denied early rumors that Trump was considering replacing him with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, telling reporters: He said, “Keep going.'' Keep fighting. I'm always behind you. ”

Mr. Trump's endorsement and Mr. Hegseth's defiance come amid slander from anonymous sources about allegations dating back a decade.
The first smear came from far-left Democratic activists who claimed Hegseth's tattoos were associated with white supremacy. In fact, they are related to his Christian faith and have nothing to do with white supremacy.
The second smear was a report about a woman's rape allegation in 2017. However, a police report on the incident showed no evidence of rape and surveillance camera footage contradicted the woman's testimony. Additionally, no charges were filed.
The third smear occurred as follows. new york times They obtained angry emails released by Hegseth's mother when he divorced his then-wife, accusing him of abusing women. She said of the email, “I hate to use words, but he's not abusing women. No, I mean, he's been through some difficult things, you know. I'm not going to list them, but I will just say that some of them, some of the attachments and explanations, are not true, especially now.”
The fourth defamatory article was written by co-workers who were fired from the American Veterans Concern group a decade ago, complaining to leadership about Hegseth's claims that he drank too much at holiday parties and after-work events. It centered on the accusations made when creating the . The article also claimed that Mr. Hegseth was forced to leave the organization, but two other former colleagues and leaders of the organization told Breitbart News that that was simply not true and that Mr. Hegseth was forced to leave the organization. supported Trump and said he resigned voluntarily because the organization's funders at the time did not support him. .
A recent smear article claimed that he came to work smelling of alcohol, and dozens of his colleagues at Fox News who made the recording public said that this was a complete lie and could not be true at all. There was a flood of cheers saying no.
In the past, Mr. Hegseth has undaunted the detractors he has faced, including Sen. Marsha Blackburn (Tennessee), Sen. Cynthia Lummis (Wyoming), and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (West Virginia). It has strong support from many Republican senators, including Sen. Hegseth is expected to meet with Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, who is rumored to want the defense secretary position but has not yet announced her support.
