Barry Moore Announces Senate Run in Alabama
On Tuesday, Republican Rep. Barry Moore from Alabama revealed his intention to run for the U.S. Senate, with hopes of succeeding Sen. Tommy Tuberville. The announcement came via a campaign video shared on X, featuring his wife, Heather Moore.
In the video, Moore expressed his belief that Alabama deserves a senator who aligns with Trump conservatives. He emphasized his long-standing support for former President Donald Trump, claiming to be the first elected official to endorse him back in 2015.
Currently representing Alabama’s Second Congressional District, Moore is in his third term. Reports indicate he was elected to Congress in 2020 and re-elected in 2022. A recent federal court decision changed the district boundaries, resulting in Moore being placed in the First Congressional District, which has become more favorable for Democrats. Consequently, he shifted his focus to run in District 1.
By entering the Senate race, Moore joins a growing list of candidates vying for Tuberville’s seat. Among his Republican competitors is Attorney General Steve Marshall, a seasoned candidate having been first elected in 2018 and winning re-election in 2022.
So far, the Republican field includes Jared Hudson, a former Navy SEAL who previously ran for sheriff in Jefferson County. On the Democratic side, candidates include Kyle Sweezer, a former Republican and business owner, Dakalai Lariet, a University of Alabama graduate and entrepreneur, and Mark Wheeler, a chemist with ties to the local manufacturing industry.
