Trump's EPA Achieves $1.6 Trillion in Savings with Deregulation Efforts

EPA Highlights $1.6 Trillion in Savings Under Trump Administration

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under the Trump administration, claims to have saved American taxpayers $1.6 trillion through its deregulation efforts. This has been made known via a new webpage that showcases these achievements.

As part of an ongoing effort, the EPA has been publishing a series of webpages that outline its successes during President Trump’s tenure. Earlier this month, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin emphasized that since President Trump took office, the agency has been dedicated to being responsible stewards of taxpayer money, stating that they have “SAVING AMERICANS OVER $30 BILLION!” He also pointed to the new webpage which details the EPA’s efforts to rectify issues left by the Biden administration.

These savings reportedly encompass $30 billion from canceled grants, $257 million due to contract cancellations, and an annual reduction of $825 million in contracting costs.

This week marks the release of the final webpage in the series, focusing on the administration’s successful push to eliminate unnecessary regulations and streamline permitting processes. According to reports, these efforts have accumulated significant savings for everyday Americans. The EPA argues that these initiatives not only encourage economic growth but also serve to protect the environment. Notably, they’ve tackled California’s de facto nationwide electric vehicle mandate by collaborating with Congress through the Congressional Review Act, in addition to simplifying permitting requirements.

The EPA has highlighted the burdens it inherited, mentioning that the previous EPA’s rules accounted for a significant portion of federal regulatory costs. Specifically, they noted that EPA rules contributed to more than $1.3 trillion of about $1.8 trillion in cumulative federal regulatory expenses. These rules encompassed regulations related to greenhouse gas emissions from power plants and vehicles, climate-related mandates in the oil and gas sector, all of which added to consumer costs, leading to increased energy and gas prices.

Since taking office, Trump has partnered with lawmakers to roll back certain regulations. Starting last year, Congress passed six Congressional Review Act resolutions, effectively nullifying earlier EPA decisions. Among these was the repeal of a truck EV mandate that raised shipping expenses and the 2024 methane fee for energy producers, among others.

In February 2026, Congress also overturned the 2009 Endangerment Finding, which led to the elimination of greenhouse gas emission requirements for vehicles and other associated credits. The EPA describes this as the largest deregulatory action in U.S. history, estimating savings of over $1.3 trillion, or about $2,400 per new vehicle.

Later, in September, a major repeal of the Biden administration’s greenhouse gas emission standards for power plants was also achieved, marking another significant deregulatory success.

The EPA claims this historic level of savings surpasses anything previous administrations have accomplished over their entire terms across all agencies combined. Zeldin remarked that in the past year alone, the Trump EPA finalized around $1.6 trillion in savings for American households and businesses while still upholding strong environmental regulations. He asserted that the Trump EPA illustrates that it is indeed possible to reduce costs, enhance consumer choice, and protect the environment simultaneously.
