Trump Defends ICE Officers in Controversial Shooting
President Trump has stepped up to support federal officers involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of a female protester, calling the footage of the incident from Minneapolis “horrifying to watch.”
This reaction followed the tragic event where 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was shot by ICE agents on Wednesday; officials claim she attempted to hit a police officer with her vehicle.
“It’s a terrible scene,” Trump shared with reporters shortly after reviewing the grappling footage of the incident.
“I think it’s just terrible to see. No, I don’t want to see that at all,” he added, underscoring his emotional response.
The president maintained that the unidentified agent acted in self-defense, stating he was struck by Good’s car before returning fire.
“That was a vicious situation,” Trump remarked, claiming that Good “behaved badly” and did not merely attempt but effectively ran over the officer.
According to Trump and Homeland Security officials, the video shows Good deliberately driving toward the officer before the shots were fired from her vehicle.
Moreover, Trump expressed a clear desire for peace, mentioning he doesn’t want anyone to get shot or try to run over a police officer.
“A lot has been said, but no, I don’t like things like that happening,” he noted. His comments came shortly after he posted on Truth Social, emphasizing that the federal agent involved was hospitalized following an attack from “disorderly” protesters and was fortunate to be alive.
Local leaders, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and outgoing Governor Tim Walz, quickly rejected Trump’s narrative, calling for ICE’s withdrawal from the state.
In contrast, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem insisted that the agents would remain, asserting that Good was part of a “group of agitators” undermining Trump’s immigration enforcement efforts, and she labeled the shooting an “act of domestic terrorism.”
