President Donald Trump abruptly concluded a tense interview with Kristen Welker from “Meet the Press” on Sunday. This followed her persistent questioning about his election fraud claims, the vote count in California, and his proposed anti-weaponization fund.
During their last exchange, Trump accused NBC, ABC, CBS, and CNN of being “crooked.” He stated, “You are a one-sided, twisted network,” before ending the interview with a curt, “I’m sorry. I’ve had enough. Let’s stop now. Thank you, darling. Have fun.”
The conversation intensified as Welker pressed Trump on a proposed $1.8 billion fund intended to compensate individuals he claims were targeted by former President Biden’s supposed “weaponization” of the government. She asked if Trump would abandon the fund now that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche indicated it wouldn’t proceed.
“To be clear, as Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said, are you withdrawing from the fund completely, or are you looking for another path to reinstate the fund?” Welker asked.
Trump defended the fund, asserting that people had suffered under the Biden administration. “People have been seriously hurt by the Biden administration and the far-left lunatics who worked for Sleepy Joe,” he remarked. “They’re vicious and violent, and of course, they came after me more than anyone else.”
As Welker continued to question whether Trump was seeking to revive the proposal, he expressed personal support but acknowledged it required approval. “If it were up to me, I would pay them what they deserve,” he claimed, adding, “Personally, I think the Weaponization Fund is a great idea, and so do many other Republicans. It should be approved.”
Trump further criticized the media and Biden officials, asserting they had ruined lives. “I like this idea,” he said. “There are people like you, the fake dirty press, the distorted press, people like Biden, who is stupid… What they did to people’s lives, they destroyed people.”
Welker countered his accusations, stating he had no evidence. “To be clear, there is no evidence of what you are saying,” she asserted. Trump, however, dismissed her rebuttal.
President Trump maintained that there was “a tremendous amount of evidence” regarding his claims about the election being fraudulent, linking it to the ongoing voting situation in California. “The election was stolen,” he reiterated. “That was a dirty election, and now it’s happening again in California.”
He pointed out the slow pace of vote counting, emphasizing that it takes over a month to certify elections in California. “All I have to do is watch,” he remarked, referring to the integrity of the press and the election coverage. “Your press is crooked. And ‘Meet the Press’ is crooked.”
As he wrapped up, Welker attempted to continue the discussion, highlighting the effort NBC had made by traveling to Wisconsin. Trump, however, claimed he had given her enough time, saying, “We sat together in the rain for an hour… A country with a dishonest press can never become great.”
