Controversy Surrounds Twitch Streamer and Dog
A significant backlash has emerged after Twitch streamer Hasan Piker was accused on Wednesday of shocking his dog with a collar, an allegation he firmly denies.
This uproar began during a livestream on Tuesday when Piker harshly criticized the internet service in Los Angeles, saying, “I hate this shitty country.” As he spoke, his dog Kaya, seemingly startled, stood up from where she was lying.
After pressing a button on his desk, Piker reprimanded Kaya when she attempted to leave her spot. At that moment, the dog yelped in distress, prompting Piker to react, “Jesus, what are you doing?” followed by, “You really are a baby.”
Piker later suggested that Kaya’s crying was due to her being “spoiled” by her mother, attempting to deflect the criticism. In a follow-up broadcast, he explained that her loud yelps were possibly from a misstep, claiming she “walked strangely” or got her foot caught on something, as reported by Forbes.
This incident spurred a wave of outrage online, with many people taking to social media to condemn his treatment of Kaya. Some even shared memes mocking the situation, showcasing Kaya’s ordeal in a dramatic light.
During a later stream, Piker acknowledged the use of a behavior modification collar, insisting, however, that he didn’t actually shock the dog. He stated, “This is one of Kaya’s many collars,” while pretending to call her over and removing the collar from her neck. He argued that this was the source of the controversy.
While discussing the collar, Piker maintained that it was set to “vibration” and not for shocking, despite showing it during the livestream. He contended that Kaya could have simply hurt her dewclaw while moving on the platform, asserting he didn’t activate any vibrating feature.
As of now, Piker remains unavailable for further comments on this situation.
